Acupuncture and Oriental medicine are  traditional healing arts that originated in China.  These natural healing arts have been used in the Orient for thousands of years to promote and maintain health.  Oriental medicine  includes:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is used to stimulate and strengthen the flow of energy that circulates throughout the body along 14 major channels called meridians. It is used to treat many specific ailments and conditions of the body and to help the energy flow more harmoniously. An acupuncturist uses various safe and painless methods to stimulate acupuncture points and meridians, including heat (moxibustion) and pressure (cutaneous stimulation).

How Does Acupuncture Feel?

Unlike medical hypodermic needles, acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible. When inserted into the skin, some may go unnoticed, while others may feel like a small, light pinch. The needles are inserted to varying depths (anywhere from .2 to 2 inches) depending on the comfort of the patient, the area of the body, and the condition or illness being treated.  Robert may stimulate the needles by rotating them gently which may be accompanied by sensations of tingling, warmth, heaviness, or achiness. The needles are usually retained for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, and during this time should not be painful or uncomfortable. Robert does his best to make the treatment as comfortable and painless as possible.  Following a treatment most people feel more relaxed and revitalized both mentally and physically. Acupuncture needles are single-use, disposable, pre-sterilized, and individually packaged.

Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbs are a safe and effective method of promoting healing in the body. Robert usually dispense herb formulas in a granule/powder form, but they can also be dispensed in a pill form.  Chinese herbs each have different properties, which when combined synergistically harmonize to dispel disease and illness or strengthen the body. Proper diagnosis is important to safely administer Chinese herbs.

Oriental Therapeutic Massage

Robert combines acupuncture with gentle Oriental therapeutic massage techniques and energy work, to help each patient to learn to relax, let go, and heal their own body.

Lifestyle Recommendations

Finally, but very importantly, Robert gives patients recommendations to take home and implement on their own. These recommendations can take the form of exercises, meditation, dietary changes, or simply resting, sleeping, and relaxing more. Leading a healthful and harmonious life are the crux to healing in Oriental medicine.

How Many Treatments are Needed?

The number and frequency of treatments depends on the individual’s condition. Pain and discomfort may be alleviated quickly with acupuncture and herbs, but long-term, chronic pain may take longer. Acute problems may respond more quickly, whereas chronic illnesses may require treatment for weeks or months. As with any type of healthcare or therapy, lifestyle, nutrition, attitude, and commitment will affect the course of and outcome of treatment.
